We all know that sports and exercise are good for us, but being physically active is especially important for children and young people.
Sports have developmental benefits for children and teach vital life skills. Studies have found that on average, children who play sports outperform sedentary children in nearly every measurable category. Active children generally perform better in school, have higher grades, tend to be less hyperactive, have fewer behavioural or conduct issues, report less antisocial behaviour, and report fewer problems with other children. Participating in sports also encourages children to co-operate with each other, improving team skills and helping children make new friends outside of school.
Then there are the health benefits. Children who play sports are more likely to be a healthy weight, have improved motor skills, have stronger skeletons, have lower stress and lower rates of mental health issues.
People who play sports as children are also more likely than sedentary children to be active as adults, so the good habits you build now with your children could last the rest of their lives!
At JSA we have a selection of sports for you to choose from, allowing you and your child to find the sport that best suits them – choosing a good fit will make sure your child enjoys sports and will encourage them to participate regularly. That’s why our junior sports memberships allow you to choose any sport available at JSA! Did you sign up for soccer but your child decides they really want to try MMA? As long as they pick a class appropriate for their age, they’re welcome to join in.
